WHAT WE DO
Otro Diseño means literally Another Design in Spanish. Another kind of design. Different design. Otro Diseño is a design agency based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, promoting the unique work of designers and jewellery makers from special corners of the world. In an era of globalization, we consider cultural reciprocity as fundamental, so we promote design that results from the exchange of ideas, expertise and resources among diverse cultures. We assist designers to consolidate breakthrough products for the global market and provide opportunities to expose their work to each other's market.
Planning and managing a variety of projects for designers, companies, museums, academies and cultural organizations that are interested in producing and showing good design, we act as a dynamic network that encourages the exchange of ideas, knowledge and opportunities. As a link between designers and consumers, we bring products and projects with high quality standards in design, function and meaning to a public that seeks to experience, buy or commission design from other latitudes.
With a strong emphasis on contemporary jewellery, Otro Diseño explores the richness and diversity of design trough the world. Design that is original and inventive, resourceful and refined: the result of a mixture of people, ideas and cultures.
WHY WE DO IT
At Otro Diseño, we view design as a tool to improve prosperity and well-being of society in a process that considers designers, manufacturers, environment and the users, as equal parts of an equation.
Living in a connected world gives us opportunities we didn't have before. Nowadays we have a better understanding of cultures foreign to us and we benefit form an ever growing commercial exchange. Designers are now able to have an insight of the way design is perceived and experienced around the world know and to understand and appreciate each other's work, always enriching from the exchange. We aim to inspire designers to work in cooperation and the public to experience and enjoy fresh, innovative and meaningful design.
Our mission is to nurture design excellence by helping designers and design producers from Latin America and Europe to develop new skills and knowledge and to gain access to new ideas, technology and production methods that enable them to develop their businesses, and create access to new markets outside their country of origin. Otro Diseño also aims to promote the understanding and appreciation of design as a tool to improve the quality of life of designers, manufacturers and consumers. Otro Diseño realizes this mission through outstanding exhibitions and events, research initiatives, commercialization of innovative design products and exchange projects that merge a diverse international audience through its extensive network and cultural partnerships.
